About the Porthos CCS project
Porthos is a project for the collection and transport of CO₂ from industrial companies in the Port of Rotterdam, to be subsequently stored in depleted gas fields beneath the North Sea. Companies capture CO₂ at their facilities and feed it into the Porthos pipeline that runs through the port area. The CO₂ is compressed at a compressor station on the Maasvlakte and then transported via an offshore pipeline to a platform approximately 20 km off the coast. From this platform, the CO₂ is injected into an empty gas reservoir. The offshore system consists of a high-pressure 16” subsea pipeline and an offshore platform with four injection wells.
