\nConstruction of Porthos, as the first CCS project of this scale to be realised in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and the European Union, is well under way. This transport and storage project marks the start of a brand new CO2 infrastructure in north-western Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The construction of Porthos was celebrated on 2 September with those directly involved. Ahmed Aboutaleb (the mayor of Rotterdam), Sophie Hermans (Minister of Climate Policy and Green Growth) and Mechthild W\u00f6rsd\u00f6rfer (Deputy Director-General of the European Commission for Energy), together with the CEOs of Gasunie, EBN (Energie Beheer Nederland) and Havenbedrijf Rotterdam – the shareholders of Porthos – performed a symbolic launching act marking the realisation of the new infrastructure.\u00a0Minister Hermans: \u201cCCS is crucial to meet climate targets. By building the first large-scale transport and storage system for CO2<\/sub> in the Netherlands, Porthos is taking a big step. This will allow the industry to reduce emissions and keep a competitive industry here in the Netherlands. I am proud of all the parties who are making this possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
