A gathering pipeline has been constructed in the Port of Rotterdam area, allowing companies to connect their captured CO\u2082 to the Porthos network. The Porthos infrastructure is an open-access, non-discriminatory system. This means that companies can use the CO\u2082 transport and storage network on equal terms.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"428\" data-end=\"472\">Porthos currently works with four customers:<\/p>\r\n<ul data-start=\"474\" data-end=\"523\">\r\n<li data-section-id=\"1sx4u63\" data-start=\"474\" data-end=\"487\">Air Liquide<\/li>\r\n<li data-section-id=\"o1x18q\" data-start=\"488\" data-end=\"502\">Air Products<\/li>\r\n<li data-section-id=\"19evnt\" data-start=\"503\" data-end=\"515\">ExxonMobil<\/li>\r\n<li data-section-id=\"178kxva\" data-start=\"516\" data-end=\"523\">Shell<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p data-start=\"525\" data-end=\"802\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">These companies will supply their captured CO\u2082 via the gathering pipeline, after which Porthos will transport it and ensure its permanent and safe storage beneath the North Sea. In December 2021, the parties signed the definitive contracts for the transport and storage of CO\u2082.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<h2 class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-section-id=\"1h7w3ff\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"27\">Infrastructure expansion<\/h2>\r\n<p data-start=\"29\" data-end=\"313\">The available storage capacity in the current gas field has been fully allocated. At present, no new companies can join Porthos. The <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.porthosco2.nl\/en\/porthos-aims-to-close-cooperation-agreements\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"108\" data-end=\"232\"><strong data-start=\"109\" data-end=\"145\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Expression of Interest procedure<\/strong><\/a> (EOI) showed that there was sufficient interest to continue developing the CO\u2082 transport and storage project.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<h4 class=\"z-0 flex min-h-[46px] justify-start\"><strong>Joint Development Agreement\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"33\" data-end=\"638\">In autumn 2019, Porthos entered into <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.porthosco2.nl\/en\/porthos-a-step-closer-four-companies-prepare-co2-capture\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"70\" data-end=\"196\"><strong data-start=\"71\" data-end=\"103\">Joint Development Agreements<\/strong><\/a> <strong data-start=\"197\" data-end=\"207\">(JDAs)<\/strong> with Air Liquide, Air Products, ExxonMobil and Shell. A second agreement (JDA2) followed in autumn 2020. By signing the first JDAs, Porthos and the participating companies agreed to jointly develop the project further. Porthos continued with the permitting procedures and the technical development of the infrastructure. The participating companies started the permitting procedures and the design of their CO\u2082 capture facilities.<\/p>\r\n<h4 data-start=\"640\" data-end=\"658\">SDE++ subsidy<\/h4>\r\n<p data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"971\">In spring 2021, the JDA partners received an <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.porthosco2.nl\/en\/dutch-government-supports-porthos-customers-with-sde-subsidy-reservation\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"705\" data-end=\"813\"><strong data-start=\"706\" data-end=\"723\">SDE++ subsidy<\/strong><\/a>. This subsidy bridges the gap between revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) and the total costs of capturing, transporting and storing CO\u2082.
