Quality Engineer Offshore
About Porthos
Porthos is a project designed to transport CO2 from industry in the Port of Rotterdam and store it in depleted gas fields beneath the North Sea. The CO2 transported and stored by Porthos will be captured by various companies. These companies will feed their CO2 into a pipeline running through the Rotterdam port area. The CO2 is then pressurised at a compressor station, after which it is transported via an offshore pipeline to a platform in the North Sea, approximately 20 km off the coast. From this platform, the CO2 is pumped into a depleted gas field. The depleted gas fields are located in a sealed reservoir of porous sandstone, more than 3 km beneath the North Sea. The project is expected to start up in the second half of 2027. The aim is to store approximately 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 per year for at least 15 years.
At Porthos, we work in multidisciplinary teams comprising experts from the parent companies EBN, the Port of Rotterdam Authority and Gasunie, alongside independent professionals.
