Why is CCS important for Rotterdam’s industry?

Around 14% of the Netherlands’ CO₂ emissions originate in the Port of Rotterdam area. This means the region plays an important role in achieving the country’s climate targets. There are various ways to decarbonise industry, with CCS, hydrogen and electrification among the key solutions.

To achieve substantial emissions reductions in the short term, CCS is currently one of the most effective and cost-efficient options. CCS enables companies in the chemical industry, hydrogen producers and refineries to significantly reduce their CO₂ emissions, while continuing to invest in further decarbonisation and innovation in their production processes.
